Information
Seroquel (Quetiapine) is an antipsychotic medication, which works by changing the actions of the chemicals or neurotransmitters in the brain. Seroquel (Quetiapine) is an antagonist at some neurotransmitter receptors in the brain such as serotonin, dopamine, histamine, and adrenergic receptors. Seroquel (Quetiapine) has an effect on the imbalance of chemicals in the brain which cause disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, also known as manic depression.
Seroquel (Quetiapine) should be taken exactly how it is prescribed by your doctor and should not be taken for a longer period than recommended by your doctor. Each dose of Seroquel (Quetiapine) should be taken with a full glass of water. Seroquel (Quetiapine) tablets are not meant to be crushed or chewed, you should swallow the tablet whole. If Seroquel (Quetiapine) tablet is crushed or chewed, it may cause too much of the drug to be released at one time.

Side Effects
Seroquel (Quetiapine) may cause side effects which are not so serious, however if they are bothersome, contact your doctor as soon as possible. These include: dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, constipation, blurred vision, headache, anxiety, agitation, breast swelling or discharge, missed menstrual periods, or weight gain. Other side effects caused by Seroquel (Quetiapine) which are serious and thus you need to contact your doctor immediately include: fever, stiff muscles, confusion, sweating, increased or uneven heartbeats, uncontrolled jerky muscle movements, numbness, headache, blurred vision and speech, increased thirst, frequent urination, and excessive hunger. Call your doctor at once if you have any new or worsening symptoms such as: mood or behavior changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, or if you feel impulsive, irritable, agitated, hostile, aggressive, restless, hyperactive (mentally or physically), more depressed, or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself.
Studies have indicated that Seroquel (Quetiapine) has caused fatal pneumonia or heart failure in older adults with dementia-related conditions.
Seroquel (Quetiapine) can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert.
